Behlman 400 Hz to 60 Hz Converters Enable the Use of Cost-effective COTS Equipment for In-flight Systems

Hauppauge, New York (PRWEB) May 8, 2006

Behlman Electronics Inc., known for its leadership in providing power products for aviation, industrial, commercial and military applications, has introduced the Behlman BLP-8000C-1-4893 high-power, three-phase 400 Hz to split-single-phase 60 Hz frequency converter for use in systems on board military and commercial aircraft.

By converting aircraft power (400 Hz) to ground power (60 Hz),and delivering 8000 VA of clean, regulated AC power, the BLP-8000C-1-4893 allows for the use of COTS equipment in place of cost-prohibitive mil-spec equipment (which requires 400 Hz).

Now in-flight aircraft systems can better comply with the governments directive to use COTS equipment wherever possible, explained Behlman Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ron Storm. This opens the door for tremendous cost-savings and performance upgrades for in-flight systems.

The BLP-8000C-1-4893 frequency converters digitally-controlled waveform produces clean AC power like a linear supply, with the high efficiency and small size of a switching supply; the unit features two 19 rack mount chassis that together total only 14 (8U) high.

Innovative protection circuitry provides voltage fold-back during overloads to maintain undistorted waveforms. A multi-pulsed input transformer offers low harmonic distortion and high input power factor. The units feature a microprocessor controller with a 24-character X two line vacuum fluorescent display, and an RS-232 interface for remote control and read-back of voltage, frequency, current and current limit. The BLP-8000C-1-4893 has protection and indicators for over voltage, over current, over temperature, constant current and short circuit, plus an output on/off switch with remote control capability (using a customer-supplied 28 VDC signal). It has internal fans for cooling, and three MIL-type connectors for input, output and control.

Behlmans rugged BLP-8000C-1-4893 frequency converter is manufactured to withstand the rigors on board aircraft and is designed meet MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 specifications. Price is approximately $ 15,500, and delivery is 90 days.

Behlman Electronics Inc., a subsidiary of Orbit International Corp., manufactures and sells high quality standard, modified standard, custom and COTS power solutions, including AC power supplies, frequency converters, inverters, DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC, and uninterruptible power supplies.

Orbit International Corp., (NASDAQ:ORBT), based in Hauppauge, New York, is involved in the manufacture of customized electronic components and subsystems for military and nonmilitary government applications.
