Budco Enhances Fulfillment Operations with New Technology and Processes

Highland Park, MI (PRWEB) February 28, 2011

Budco, a leading fulfillment and direct marketing organization, has implemented a new state-of-the-art package scanning process to improve the quality and efficiency of their fulfillment operations and to meet the growing needs of their clients.

The new process and accompanying technology involves the use of high-speed conveyers, in-line scanners and bar coded package identification to validate order accuracy and to sort packages for optimal shipping.

Although the company uses a variety of proven, automated production control techniques to support a wide variety of client initiatives, they felt it was time to implement new enhancements.

Due to our continued and rapid growth in serving the health care and pharmaceutical industries, and given the personal and private nature of the products and information we are now distributing, we needed to find a way to ensure 100% accuracy in our fulfillment without sacrificing efficiency, said Rob Hyman, Budco senior vice president of Operations.

But, the company took an interesting approach to designing the enhanced solution. Instead of purchasing a proprietary or off-the-shelf control system, Budco formed an internal team that set out to develop their own solution.

We have some very bright people at Budco, said Hyman. We put a few of our production fulfillment and IT team members together and they designed a software solution, married it with the right hardware and in record time we had a new, very sophisticated solution up and running. Our clients are thrilled with the added value we are delivering.

Custom assembled orders for product samples and information are delivered to an automated finishing line via high-speed conveyer. The packages pass through an in-line scanner that reads a bar code embedded with order and shipping data. This information is validated against a fulfillment database in real time. Any discrepancies trigger a diversion processes that routes the package to a Quality Assurance Manager for immediate resolution. Additionally, the system posts production statistics and order status to a Web-based dashboard providing real-time visibility to program performance.

The Budco solution has been very effective, said Hyman. We have improved our clients speed to market, and we are positively impacting consumer satisfaction. We are also very proud of the internal team who architected the solution.
