DuPont Community Fund Grant Program Funds More Than 70 Projects Around the World

Wilmington, DE (PRWEB) August 17, 2011

About 2,500 people in South Africa will have a sustained supply of clean drinking water thanks to the 2011 DuPont Community Fund, which is contributing to 72 global projects benefiting schoolchildren, the elderly and neighborhoods.

Partnering with Roundabout Outdoor, DuPont will install a sustainable pumping system, called a PlayPump, that is powered by a merry-go-round that local children in South Africa operate. The initiative will contribute toward solving a problem of diseases related to the consumption of unhealthy water and basic hygiene and sanitation, said Vinette Nicholls, communications manager DuPont Sub-Saharan Africa. This water system will bring safe water to children and reduce the level of diarrhea episodes in the community by more than 30 percent. At the same time, it provides local children with much needed play equipment.

The Fund awarded more than $ 260,000 this year for projects in 15 countries to provide clean water, air conditioning for seniors, a community vegetable garden and help for teachers who want to make science cool in the classroom.

Our goal is to give back to the communities where we live and work. Its part of our core values as a company and key to DuPonts sustainable growth mission, said Sylvia Banks, manager DuPont Corporate Contributions and Memberships. Since the program began, the DuPont Community Fund has provided more than $ 2 million for innovative programs that nourish and improve the health of our communities.
