Heraeus Introduces Versatile New Front Side Silver Paste for Silicon PV Cells

The Photovoltaic Business Unit of Heraeus has developed a new front-side silver paste that offers higher efficiencies along with superior contact quality and aspect ratios on both mono- and multi-crystalline wafers and a wide range of sheet resistance emitters. The cadmium-free silver metallization paste (SOL9235H) is the newest in the series of Heraeus products introduced each year for the photovoltaic cell manufacturing market. Heraeus invests heavily in research and development to be able to produce new formulations each year that increase the efficiency of produced cells.

 

According to Andy London, Heraeus PV Business Unit manager, customers who tested this new front-side paste during the development and scale-up phase reported increases of cell absolute output efficiencies in the 0.2 to 0.4 percent range — outperforming any other silver paste available on the market today.

 

“The chemistry of SOL9235H enhances the etching of the anti-reflective coating and significantly improves the contact quality of the cell during the spike firing process,” said London. “The paste also provides a very high printed aspect ratio feature which further boosts current density and fill factor of the cell.”
