Mercury United Electronics, Inc. leads the way with the new release of the smallest Low EMI Spread Spectrum clock oscillator available today. This package measures 5 x 3.2 x 1.2mm with a 4 pad ceramic surface mount base that is a drop-in replacement for most existing 5 x 3.2 conventional clock oscillators. The EMI reduction is up to 12dB and there is no need to re-spin the board.
The 3HM53 Group “R” series is available at +3.3V with a fixed frequency range from 6.000MHz to 160.000MHz at both commercial (0C to +70C) and industrial (-40C to +85C) temperature ranges. The typical start-up time is only 2mS while the cycle-to-cycle jitter is typically +/-250pS. This out-performs the larger packaged programmable spread spectrum oscillators offered by others.
A frequency modulation technique is used with a modulation carrier frequency in the KHz range that is transparent to the oscillator frequency. The controlled modulation process can be configured down from the nominal frequency (down spread) at -0.5%, -1% or -3%. This is recommended where over-clocking is a problem. A center spread type is also available at +/-0.25%, +/-0.5% or +/-1.5%.
