METRO LINK, INC: THE FIRST COMPANY TO SHIP AN INTEGRATED SOFTWARE SUITE FOR NETWORKING, ENTERTAINMENT, AND HOME APPLIANCES

(PRWEB) January 9, 2002

Metro Link provides a complete software solution for set-top boxes, DVD players, refrigerators, digital televisions, wall switches, and home gateways for wireless, DSL and Cable.

Metro LinkÂ’s software-product suite includes everything from hardware device drivers to application development tools. Two operating systems, a TCP/IP stack, Universal Plug and Play support, a browser, and multimedia middleware providing an al la carte solution for reduced time to market.

“We are the only company delivering a complete solution for devices from light switches to digital televisions,” said Morgan Von Essen, Metro Link President and CEO. “The integration our software products offer will help the developers and manufacturers of a vast variety of home appliances get their products to market quickly, and with greater interoperability on the home network.”

Metro Link’s solutions are being demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The demonstrations include a 802.11b Web Pad and access point, PVR, analog and digital set-top boxes, and a residential gateway with lighting, security, thermostat, and X10 support.

The product suite consists of two operating systems, Metro IPWorks™ and Metro Linux™, and two specialized software packages, Metro EnableWorks™ and Metro Media™.

Metro IPWorks is a tiny embedded operating system for microcontrollers complete with TCP/IP and a micro Web server. It is ideal for control of wall switches and outlets and the network enabling of home appliances. Metro IPWorks serves as an excellent platform for the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) support of Metro EnableWorks.

Metro Linux is a highly optimized operating system that enables set-top boxes and home gateways to communicate and work with core networking and multimedia services. This interoperability and ease of communication is key for developing the network-reliant applications of today and tomorrow. Metro Linux is the model platform for Metro LinkÂ’s Metro Media middleware.

Metro EnableWorks is a fully compliant interoperable implementation of UPnP that enables developers to create their specific implementations with our standard API. Its software provides for the automatic configuration of devices that deliver information or multimedia services in the home. Also included is the networking middleware for device discovery and auto-configuration of a homeÂ’s networked devices. The implementation is small enough to fit inside light switches and will communicate over any network transport, including power line, wireless, or Ethernet.

Metro Media provides the turnkey brandable software solution for PVR, DVR, DVD, Web browsing, and MP3 playback and storage through a standard API for easy customization. It is available on two operating systems and 10 CPU and MPEG chipsets.
