Public Financial Management Expert, Steven Symansky, to Keynote FreeBalance Conference

FreeBalance, a leading vendor of Government Resource Planning (GRP) software, announced that Steven Symansky, former advisor in the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department will be a keynote speaker at the annual FreeBalance International Steering Committee (FISC) event on January 16-18, 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. Mr. Symansky will be speaking about the challenges of developing and sustaining a Financial Management Information System (FMIS) in government. He will describe the process of achieving development partner acceptance of country financial systems, a goal from the recent Busan High Level Forum. This is the second time that Mr. Symansky has provided a keynote presentation at FISC.

While at the IMF, Mr. Symansky served as the Deputy Division Chief of the Fiscal Surveillance and Policy Division and the Chief of the Afghanistan Mission where he negotiated the Staff Monitored Program related to the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility. Mr. Symansky has led a number of technical assistance and public expenditure missions to post conflict countries such as Kosovo, Timor-Leste, Afghanistan, Iraq and Liberia.

 

In addition to his remarkable international career, Mr. Symansky is credited to developing IMFs first world macro- econometric model. He co-authored a well-known paper with George Kopits on Fiscal Policy Rules. Mr. Symanskys recent discussion paper on donor funding and PFM reform recommended priorities in post-conflict countries. Mr. Symansky graduated with a PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.
