Quadros Systems RTXC™ RTOS Supports IAR Development Tools for ColdFire© Processors

Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 19, 2007

Quadros Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of configurable and scalable real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced support for IAR Embedded Workbench® for ColdFire microcontrollers, an integrated environment for building and debugging applications. Now, developers looking to move to the ColdFire family of processors can access the flexibility and power of the RTXC Quadros RTOS and the efficiency and code density of the IAR Embedded Workbench development environment.

IAR Embedded Workbench is a set of highly sophisticated and easy-to-use development tools – C/C++ compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, text editor, project manager, and debugger – combined in an integrated development environment (IDE) for programming embedded applications. It generates very efficient and reliable FLASH/PROMable code for ColdFire devices.

The RTXC RTOS brings unique benefits to the ColdFire family of processors delivering powerful services in a very small code footprint. The RTOS-aware plug-in for IAR tools provides visibility into kernel objects during debug. Quadros also provides extensive support for the full range of on-chip peripherals of the ColdFire processor family including USB kits, GUI development library; TCP/IP stack (v4/v6) with Fast Ethernet driver, IPsec/IKE with support for on-chip hardware acceleration, FlexCAN support and a high-performance fail-safe flash file system.

“Quadros Systems has been supporting Freescale ColdFire architectures for many years – and the 68K family before that,” said Mats Ullström, Product Director of IAR Systems. “IAR and Quadros already have have a strong relationship supporting other 32-bit architectures. We are excited to be able to extend our partnership into the ColdFire arena.”

“IAR has been a very strong tools partner for us,” added Stephen Martin, vice president of sales and marketing for Quadros. “Bringing the ease-of-use of the Embedded Workbench tools to the ColdFire family is good for us and our customers. In addition, as an IAR reseller, we can now provide a single point of contact for development tools, RTOS, stacks and middleware for ColdFire architectures.”

The Quadros RTOS, stacks and middleware used with ColdFire processors provide an ideal solution for a wide range of embedded applications: human interface (HMI) applications, factory service and maintenance systems, point-of-sale terminals, medical instrumentation and monitoring, security/access control panels, remote monitoring, industrial machine control and automation.

Quadros Systems solutions are scalable across the entire ColdFire family, reducing learning curve for new projects and preserving application code. For more information, visit http://www.quadros.com/processors/coldfire-family.

About the Freescale ColdFire Architecture

Building on the 68K foundation, ColdFire architecture comprises high-performance RISC cores with industry-leading code density and a rich set of connectivity peripherals. By supporting variable-length instructions, ColdFire architecture enables higher code density than traditional 32- and 64-bit RISC machines. More efficient use of on-chip memory reduces bus bandwidth and external memory requirements, resulting in lower system cost. ColdFire MCUs continue to set the pace for the embedded market – from industrial automation systems to inkjet printers and MP3 players. To date, Freescale has shipped more than a half billion 68K ColdFire core-based products.

About the RTXC Quadros Family of Real-time Operating Systems

The RTXC Quadros family is comprise of four kernel architectures offering distinct performance advantages for each of the major processing models. RTXC/ss (single stack) utilizes a lightweight specialized executive to support high data rate and signal processing applications. RTXC/ms (multi-stack) is optimized for control processing using an event-driven, prioritized, preemptive scheduler. RTXC/dm (dual mode) marries RTXC/ms and RTXC/ss and is ideal for convergent processing applications which combine DSP/dataflow and RISC/control processing in a single-core architecture. Both RTXC/ms and RTXC/dm are brought together under RTXC/mp (multiprocessing) in various combinations to support multicore and multiprocessor implementations.
