Turntables and Mics Are the Weapons Of Mass Satisfaction for These Lady Djs, Femmes Fatales Can Be Found on Toucan Cove August 30

(PRWEB) July 27, 2005

Toucan Cove Entertainment is proudly releasing the first-ever compilation of its kind, honoring the leading ladies of electronica and the burgeoning presence of women behind the turntables and on the mics. Femmes Fatales will be in stores August 30.

Showcasing twelve exclusive tracks by twelve DJ/producer/vocalists, styles range from energetic trance, circuit and progressive house to breaks and drum ‘n’ bass. The ethereal “100 Stories” by Andrea Burns nestles alongside new music from Colette, Jes (from Motorcycle), Jan Johnston, DJ Keri, Angelique, Mea and others. PON remixes “I Found U” by Colleen Kelly, which was on Paul Oakenfold’s Grammy-nominated Creamfields album. This set also boasts exclusive remixes by Noel Sanger, Interstate and Black Liquid.

The record is not a mixed album but one with shorter length tracks, focusing on the songs themselves and their commercial appeal. This deliberate approach of trimming each track down to a radio comfort zone of 4-5 minutes was realized by producer Mike Burns, who is one half of the group Interstate, and director of the critically-acclaimed documentary Peace Love & Beats. His music has appeared in movies by Gus Van Zant and Phaedra Films, and in The Anna Nicole Smith Show as well as many ESPN shows including Rome is Burning.

Burns explains the importance of Femmes Fatales: “I found that not enough attention was given to these amazing women who are sadly usually credited only as ‘featured vocalists’.” These voices have often written the melodies that we associate with our favorite songs. I created the Femmes Fatales project to provide a platform for these artists to be heard, recognized and celebrated.”

“Mike Burns and I were exacting in our choice of female singers/producers to represent modern heroines. Equal parts brains, beauty, talent and determination – what we have here is a guaranteed recipe for aural seduction and a blueprint for the future. These progressive women are setting the bar for all artists in the electronic music field,” said Rob Evanoff, Toucan Cove VP, Artist Relations & Development.

While the Los Angeles record release party will be the summer’s final blow-out, the women of Femmes Fatales will take the party on the road, collectively and individually, in support of the album, their singles and in celebration of sirens on the stage. Both U.S. and international dates will be announced.
