Upcoming Series of Webinars to Provide Training in Common Core Standards Integration

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) October 28, 2011

The coming year will present a new set of challenges for educators at public schools, as 44 states, two territories, and the District of Columbia prepare to roll out the Common Core Standardsan education initiative designed to align states to the same set of curricula. These Standards are a long time coming, says Chet Linton, CEO of School Improvement Network. If integrated well, theyll change the way we teach our children.

Though educators have high hopes for Common Core, the Standards themselves only provide a model for success. Leveraging that model into student achievement will require the efforts of everyone with an interest in education, from national leaders crafting messages, to teachers on the ground, to the parents of American students. With so many groups involved, and so many interests at play, the coming months might well be the most crucial for Common Core. A strong foundation will need to be laid if the program is to have maximum impact on schools.

In an effort to help educators lay a solid foundation for Common Core and ultimately avail themselves of every benefit the program can deliver, School Improvement Network will be putting on a series of free Common Core webinars, hosted by experts in the field of education. The webinars will cover everything from the rationale behind the Common Core, to practical, hands-on instruction in how to integrate the program districtwide and in the classroom.

The first of these webinars, Common Core: Why, What, and How, will be hosted on Thursday, November 3, by renowned author and education expert Curtis Linton. Curtis will focus on the founding philosophy of the Common Core Standards and the decision to support these standards that have been embraced by 48 states. He will talk about the current gaps in educational opportunities throughout the country, and explain how the Common Core provides an opportunity to balance our education system. Curtis will also explore the nature of the changeexplaining what educators will need to know to effectively integrate the Common Core into their schools and classrooms, and will provide an overview of the process of change that states, districts, and schools will engage over the next few years.

Each of School Improvement Networks Common Core webinars will run from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, will include a 30-40 minute expert presentation supported by digital media (PowerPoint, video, audio, and graphic files), and will end with a 20 minute question and answer session.
