Semiconductor 2005 Conference in Edinburgh

(PRWEB) March 31, 2005

Gaining competitive advantage for a rapidly maturing semiconductor and microelectronics market in a knowledge-based economy will be the key topic for discussion when 250 high-level decision makers from the European semiconductor industry meet at Semiconductor 2005 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Edinburgh on 27 and 28 June.

With many major fabs now located in the Far East and China, it is the start-ups, spinouts and academic organisations of the knowledge-based economies of Europe which are forming the core customer base for the European semiconductor sector. According to Mike Smyth, Chairman of Semiconductor 2K, “For the European semiconductor industry, competitive advantage will come from the adoption of innovation-based approaches to business and new product development. Information and Communication Technologies are now the key drivers of today’s most advanced economies. Markets and industries are evolving rapidly and Semiconductor 2005 will show that companies must respond to such competitive challenges by increasing the flexibility and agility of their innovation processes or else they risk falling by the wayside.”

Speakers at Semiconductor 2005, which will be opened by Dr Ian Underwood co-founder of Micro Emissive Displays, and chaired by Dr Neil Loxley of Bede Scientific include:

Graham Althorpe, Managing Director of STMicroelectronics Limited

Discovering our Future

Dr. Michael Briere, Executive VP, Research and Development, International Rectifier

The increasingly important role of power management, semiconductor circuits and devices in energy conservation

Simon Durrant, Marketing Director, Oxford Plasma Technology

Innovation through customer focus and collaboration

Jean-Christophe Eloy, General Manager, Yole Developpement -Status of the MEMS industry: overview of new applications and evolution of the markets

Dr. Richard Hammond, MD Epitech Ltd -Epitaxial Technologies for Advanced CMOS Applications

Dr. David Kynaston, Chairman, DTI Electronics Innovation and Growth Team-EIGT making it a reality

Dr. Mehdi Moussavi, CEA Leti, Alliances and R&D Networking in 300 mm microelectronics

Malcolm Penn, CEO Future Horizons- Worldwide Semiconductor Market Outlook…the more things change the more they stay the same.

Now in its sixth year, Semiconductor 2005 is organised by Semiconductor 2K on behalf of JEMI UK (the association of manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, materials and services for the Semiconductor manufacturing industry in the UK and Ireland) to address the technological and commercial challenges facing the industry.

Scottish Enterprise is the main sponsor of the event. Other sponsors include the National Microelectronics Institute who will sponsor a Decision Makers Lunch, IDC, MKS, The Epichem Group, Marks & Clerk, Tenon Group, Kratos Analytical and European Semiconductor.
