Educause Conference, Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) October 18, 2011
Ucompass.com, Inc., a leading provider of innovative technology solutions, introduced its new Boost product at Educause 2011, a leading education conference that begins today in Philadelphia, PA.
Boost, a new tool under the Ucompass Octane product family, provides content creators and publishers with an easy and quick way to add new functionality to their content. Boost matches keywords and patterns in content to trigger overlay functionality. When a reader hovers over text or clicks on a word, he/she can be presented with a glossary term, a related resource, a support image, or even a link to a video or podcast. Publishers can build their own dictionaries and upload them into Boost, or configure their own dictionary server that provides them access to more advanced word and pattern matching.
Boost is so multifunctional. It can be used to provide custom contextual glossaries or dictionaries, to launch an embedded phone dialer when a phone number appears, or link out to a stock quote when a trading symbol is displayed, said Edward Mansouri, chief executive officer for Ucompass.com, Inc. The possible uses are really limitless.
Ucompass.com, Inc. worked with its flagship customer, the Florida Virtual School, to deploy Boost to provide an integrated glossary for its lessons.
Its critical for students to understand vocabulary in their lessons. By using Boost, we are able to provide in-lesson, contextual definitions for Florida Department of Education defined terms, said Jennifer Whiting, Senior Manager of Product Development at Florida Virtual School. The terms are hyperlinked directly within lessons providing students immediate access to the approved definition in context.
Boost has achieved Basic Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) Conformance from the IMS Global Learning Consortium. Compliance with this standard ensures that Boost can easily integrate with any learning management system (LMS).
