µC/OS-II RTOS on low-cost Flashlite 186 single board computer

(PRWEB) February 12, 2004

The popular µC/OS-II RTOS is now compatible with JK microsystems’ low-cost Flashlite 186 embedded single board computer.

Authored by Jean Labrosse, µC/OS-II, The Real-Time Kernel is a highly portable, ROMable, very scalable, preemptive real-time, multitasking kernel (RTOS) for microprocessors and microcontrollers. µC/OS-II can manage up to 63 application tasks and provides the following services: Semaphores, Mutual Exclusion Semaphores (to reduce priority inversions), Event Flags, Message Mailboxes, Message Queues, Task Management, Fixed Sized Memory Block management, Time Management and more. Jean Labrosse’s book: “MicroC/OS-II, The Real-Time Kernel” (ISBN 1-57820-103-9) is available worldwide from most technical bookstores and through http://www.Micrium.com and contains a companion CD with applicable software and source code.

Since its introduction, µC/OS-II has been used in hundreds of products all around the world, such as engine controls, network adapters, industrial robots, ATM machines, instrumentation devices, audio equipment. This very robust kernel has also been FAA certified and is suitable for use in safety critical systems common to aviation and medical products. “MicroC/OS-II, The Real-Time Kernel” serves as an ideal educational platform for numerous college and university real-time system courses.

JK microsystems’ Flashlite 186 single board computer is a DOS based embedded controller powered by a 186 compatible microprocessor. This cost-effective SBC is equipped with two serial ports, 44 digital I/O lines, 512K DRAM and 512K Flash memory, and a socket for expanding non-volatile memory using M-Systems DiskOnChip products. The available development kit that contains a Flashlite 186 controller, AC adapter, connector kit, programming cable, schematic and CD with documentation, utilities, sample programs and source code. The kit also includes the Borland C/C++ V4.52 software development tools (compiler & debugger with TASM) – the same environment in which µC/OS-II was originally developed by Jean Labrosse.

JK microsystems offers the Flashlite 186 development kit for the exceptional price of $ 99, making it an inexpensive and ideal evaluation platform for embedded engineers, software developers and students of “MicroC/OS-II, The Real-Time Kernel”.
