All Flex Flexible Circuits, LLC, a designer and manufacturer of flexible circuits and flexible heaters has launched an innovative marketing initiative called Origami Flex.
Origami Flex Circuitry is a series of products that helps customers and prospects visualize how flexible circuits can be designed, fabricated, and assembled to meet unique and challenging three dimensional requirements. The art of Origami is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques; likewise, flexible circuitry can start out as a fabricated rectangular layer that can be transformed into a 3 dimensional shape in order to enable electronic packaging requirements.
Origami Flex is a great way to conceptualize the creative design options that are available with flexible circuits, said Dave Becker, Director of All Flex Sales and Marketing. In fact, there have been several times in the past that customers have actually used origami terminology to describe the solution that they were looking for.
All Flex is designing and fabricating a set of different origami flex circuits to help demonstrate the concepts used for packaging parts into unusual shapes and enclosures. The models will be provided as engineering and sales samples to existing customers and prospective clients as well as presenting them at tradeshows and promotional events.
Most promotional brochures end up at the bottom of a large pile or in a waste basket, said Becker. We are hopeful that the Origami circuits will stay on an engineers desk and act as a reminder of the design potential offered by flexible circuitry. Or as author and flexpert, Joe Fjelstad says, “getting engineers to think both beyond the plane and beyond the plain.”
