If we learned from American Idol, we learned that a fabricated vocalist is a one-trick pony, while a true singer can perform anything. Andrea Burns is one such gift to music who is stretching her creative boundaries with a track on Toucan Coves Femmes Fatales, meshing her big Broadway voice with an electronic music bed on the song 100 Stories.
Burns has appeared on Broadway as Belle in Beauty and the Beast and Vicki Nichols in The Full Monty, and Off-Broadway in Stephen Sondheims Saturday Night. She received a National Broadway Award nomination for Best Actress with her portrayal of Lucille on the national tour of Parade as well as a Jeff nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical as Dot in Sunday in the Park with George. In addition to regional theatres, she has performed at Carnegie Hall and famed opera houses throughout Europe.
Femmes Fatales is the first-ever compilation of its kind, honoring the leading ladies of electronica and the burgeoning presence of women behind the turntables and on the mics, and will be in stores and on Internet music services August 30.
The album showcases twelve exclusive tracks by twelve DJ/producer/vocalists, with styles ranging from energetic trance, circuit and progressive house to breaks and drum n bass, including new music from Colette, Jes (from Motorcycle), Jan Johnston, DJ Keri, Angelique, Mea and a new mix of Remember Me by Interstate which was on Paul Oakenfolds Grammy-nominated Creamfields album. This set also boasts exclusive remixes by Noel Sanger and Black Liquid.
Femmes Fatales was produced by Mike Burns, who is one half of the group Interstate, and director of the critically-acclaimed documentary Peace Love & Beats. His music has appeared in movies by Gus Van Zant and Phaedra Films, and in The Anna Nicole Smith Show as well as many ESPN shows including Rome is Burning. Talent obviously runs deep in the Burns family Andrea and Mike are siblings, and their cousin is Gavin DeGraw.
“Collaborating with my brother for “100 Stories” was an amazing experience. Michael is enormously talented; I’ve always been a huge fan of his music. And for me, the opportunity to sing in a completely new medium has been so exciting….I absolutely loved it and would do it again in a second. I’m already looking forward to the next single,” said Andrea.
