Shem, an experienced IP prosecutor with a strong background in electrical engineering, formerly worked as an Associate at a Seattle-based firm.

Bruce possesses a combination of legal experience and technical fluency that will make him a valuable asset to the hardware, electronic and software companies that we represent. Mr. Shem specializes in intellectual property law matters including preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, strategic intellectual property planning and patent portfolio management for both established and start-up clients. He has experience in a broad range of technologies in the electronic, software, mechanical and chemical arts, including integrated circuits, integrated circuit packaging, microprocessors, programmable logic devices, memories, disk drives, sensors, energy storage, mobile asset tracking and enterprise applications.
Prior to joining the legal profession, Mr. Shem worked as an electrical engineer in the semiconductor industry for sixteen years, most recently at Xilinx, Inc. for about nine years. In addition to his BS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, Mr. Shem earned an MBA and JD from Santa Clara University and represented Deeya Energy, Inc. as in-house counsel. He will now be based out of Carr & Ferrells Menlo Park office.
