FOX

Watsonville, California (PRWEB) September 14, 2011

FOX, the industry-leading ride dynamics company, announced today its membership to the ANT+ Alliance, and is unveiling a smart suspension setup pump concept at Interbike in Las Vegas, NV. Garmin has teamed up with FOX to show how their GPS products can provide a richer experience, utilizing ANT+ to communicate with the smart pump. FOX has also developed a smartphone application to show how other devices can integrate to provide a more intuitive suspension setup.

“The goal of this experiment was to take all of the guesswork out of properly setting up our suspension systems by utilizing relevant technology,” said FOX Senior Vice President, Bicycle Division, Mario Galasso. “We challenged our internal team of developers and teamed up with Garmin and ANT Wireless to bring a proof of concept to life. We’re extremely excited by the results and by what this means for future accessibility to riders of all levels to achieve optimal suspension setup.”

How the Concept System Works

The core of the system is the smart suspension setup pump that integrates sensors and utilizes specific fork and shock parameters to walk the user through setting sag and rebound. The smart pump then communicates with the Garmin Edge 800 via ANT+ or a smartphone application to walk the user through the process by giving specific instructions and intuitive feedback. There are no measuring, calculating, or additional tools required to go through the process, and these settings can be saved into a library of terrain- or bike-specific settings.

To ensure optimal setup, a code that is located on the fork and rear shock is inputted into the Garmin Edge 800. The code contains information about the FOX fork or shock and the bike it’s on to enable the smart pump to do its thing. The smartphone application has a built-in reader to scan a QR Code that’s embedded with information also on forks and shocks.

FOX has successfully focused on an enhanced consumer experience, incorporating both the ease of use and sophisticated functionality of ANT+, remarked Rod Morris, Director, ANT Wireless. Consumers will be impressed with their interactive tutorial. Were very pleased to add this feature-rich product to the mature ANT+ ecosystem.

“The opportunity for us to work with FOX in exploring ways to integrate complimentary services into our devices that utilize ANT+ is exciting in many ways,” said Justin McCarthy from Garmin’s media relations team. “Of the many, we get to explore integrations that enhance our users’ mountain biking experience with the experts in bike suspension.”

Live Demos During Interbike

Live demos will be running on demand at the FOX booth #19123 each day of the show. You can also see the smart pump and its integration into the Garmin Edge 800 at the Garmin and ANT Wireless booths #13115 and #1041, respectively.
