Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe launches single chip QPSK tuner

(PRWEB) April 5, 2002

April 3rd 2002. Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe, a leading supplier of integrated circuits for multimedia and digital TV applications, has launched the MB86A15, a single-chip solution that is an attractive alternative to discrete QPSK NIM modules.

The chip integrates a Zero IF Tuner, a QPSK Demodulator and Forward Error Correction (FEC) circuitry ideal for DVB-S and DSS transmissions, as well as tuning-diodes, capacitance and inductive elements. Therefore only a few external components are necessary to complete a design. In addition, the MB86A15 internally generates the control signal for DiSEqC® 1.x, which reduces the amount of software needed.

The device operates from supply voltages of just 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V. Due to the extremely low power consumption with a maximum dissipation of 1.5W (45Mbaud), it is available in a compact LQFP 120-pin package.

The evaluation kit for the device includes the LNB supply and also 22kHz modulation circuitry. Fujitsu provides end users with the application programming interface software in source code free of charge.

Through the use of Windows® based monitoring software, the evaluation and development processes are significantly simplified. For example the Windows® software offers the user a graphical bit error rate display, bar graphs for signal strength and -quality, and transponder administration using the DiSEqC® standard.
