Consumer Internet company Meebo today announced the launch of its updated mobile app for the iPhone, featuring Meebos web check in system, to further enhance the sharing experience while on the go. Meebowhich now reaches 40 percent of U.S. Web visitors todaylaunched the new app today.
The Meebo appversion 1.9lets people check in to websites from their mobile phone by clicking any link in the Meebo app or scanning QR codes. With this release, Meebo brings Web check ins to the mobile space as it did for web browsers with its recent launch of the Meebo MiniBar extension.
As our reach across the Web continues to expand and people begin to drive their online experience by their interests, we want to make sure people get the best of Meebo on any device that they are using, said Seth Sternberg, Meebo Co-Founder and CEO. In addition to Web check ins, the Meebo app will incorporate a real-time feedwhich can incorporate Meebo, Facebook and Twitter accountsthat allows users to find and check in on content their friends are sharing. iPhone users can still chat across their favorite social networks in one place with the Meebo app. And tabs at the bottom will permit users to change their account settings such as turning the Web check-in capability on and off.
Current Meebo iPhone app users will need to simply update the app in the App Store (http://itunes.com/app/Meebo) to experience these new features. Enhanced social functionalities, full Twitter support and more speed enhancements will be introduced in future iterations of the Meebo app.
Next month, Meebo will introduce its Web check-in feature through embedded check-in buttons, which will be featured on partner sites like Macys.com, and to its more than 8,000 Meebo Bar partner websites. In addition to providing web check-ins on its mobile app, Meebo recently launched an alpha version of the Meebo MiniBar a browser extension that enables people to navigate the entire Web by other people and interests by checking into their favorite websites which is available for Firefox, Chrome and now Internet Explorer users.
As Meebo expands its signature features across multiple platforms, the Meebo Barwhich brings social functionality to websitescontinues to attract new partners across several genres, including retail, entertainment/lifestyle and finance.
