The MCF548x/MCF547x MCUs feature a unique Fast Ethernet Controller (FEC) leveraged by Micro Digital’s specialized driver. The SMX.Blaze driver supports simultaneous operation of the dual FECs present on some members of this MCU family.
“Micro Digital has an on-going commitment to the ColdFire architecture, as demonstrated by our development of this new Ethernet driver, in addition to SMX’s broad support of the ColdFire MCU line,” says David Moore, director of development at Micro Digital. “In addition, USB support for the on-chip USB device controller is in progress and will be completed when revised hardware is available,” added Moore.
This driver is part of Micro Digital’s SMX.Blaze product, the SMX RTOS + TCP/IP stack bundle. SMX.Blaze offers networking and multitasking in a low-cost, integrated package for embedded systems, currently offered for $ 15K. Multitasking allows the networking and application portions to operate independently, thus making design easier. To enhance project success further, SMX.Blaze provides processor-specific BSP and startup code and tool-specific project and help files.
“The ColdFire MCF548x and MFC547x products are high-performance microcontrollers designed for network connected industrial control applications,” said Jeff Bock, global product marketing manager for Freescale’s Consumer and Industrial Microcontrollers. “The Ethernet driver developed by Micro Digital for our ColdFire MCF548x/MCF547x MCUs provides additional support to our product line, which is key technology for many critical embedded applications.”
