New Development Tools Now Available for Speech Developers

New tools for developers include upgrades to current Sensory products, a revolutionary new technology called Text-to-Speaker-Independent Recognition (T2SI), as well as a complete embedded programming environment from Phyton (

Key improvements to Sensory technologies include Sensory Speech 7 (SS7), which enables speech recognition on the RSC-4x to work more efficiently in noisy environments. Also upgraded is Quick Synthesis 4.1 (QS4.1), which enables low bit-rate high quality compression that can be done without the assistance of a recording specialist. Both products are free of charge for applications of the RSC-4x.

However, the most significant new technology is T2SI, which allows a speech developer to download text files containing the words to be recognized onto a chip using a simple push button process. “We are really excited about the new RSC-4x chip and T2SI from Sensory” says Robert Grzesek of Mattel Toys, “This chip and technology has completely changed the way we think about developing voice recognition products as it allows us to quickly create speaker independent recognition words and sets and test immediately for accuracy and product flow.”

Rounding out the offerings is the Project SE, a complete set of hardware and software tools from Phyton for developing applications based on the RSC-4x family. A full package includes MCA-SE macro assembler, PDS-SE software debugger/simulator, MCC-SE C compiler and PICE-SE in-circuit emulator included under the control of the Integrated Development Environment. The ChipProg+ universal programmer can also be hooked up to the IDE. The Project SE supports a complete development cycle, from editing source texts, to getting debugged code, to “burning” it into a memory device. Pricing starts at $ 3000 for the Integrated Development Environment and In Circuit Emulator, $ 1200 for the C compiler, and $ 3995 for the IDE/ICE and C Compiler bundle.
