NPR Talks to E-Waste Experts as Earth Day Approaches

Capitol Heights, MD (PRWEB) April 16, 2011

Every year in April when Earth Day approaches, there is a heightened awareness of all things green. Kojo Nnamdi, the celebrated NPR personality, hosted a panel of experts this week to explore The Afterlife of Your Electronics on his Tech Tuesday show.

Elizabeth Wilmot, founder of Turtle Wings Electronics Recycling was interviewed along with Walter Acorn of the Consumer Electronics Association, Ishmail Oyekan of the Electronic Waste Journal, and Sarah Westervelt of the Basel Action Network. The hour long conversation explored topics ranging from the actual process of recycling to the emerging standards and certifications for electronics recyclers in order to control exports of hazardous materials to developing countries.

Ms. Wilmot explained the importance of the R2 guidelines as set forth out by the EPA and their focus on the recycling of materials such as batteries, circuit boards, CRT monitors and ink toner. Turtle Wings integrates R2 guidelines as the environmental policy piece of their ISO 14001 certification. Other certification programs like e-Stewards and Europes standards were also discussed.

In addition to electronics recycling, Turtle Wings offers on-site destruction services nationwide under their Data Killers trade name. Turtle Wings & Data Killers were also featured in the April edition of Waste Advantage magazine in an article entitled Data Destruction Best Practices for Computer Recycling.

We are delighted that more and more news sources are turning to us as the subject matter experts in data destruction and electronics recycling, added Jairus Wright, Marketing Manager at Turtle Wings & Data Killers. We have always provided the highest standards of recycling and the most secure data destruction services and that is being recognized and acknowledged.

Turtle Wings & Data Killers are headquartered in Maryland on the Washington DC border with satellite offices across the U.S. The company is also certified by WBENC; DLIS; and HUBZone.
