Symmetry Electronics to Distribute GainSpan Ultra Low Power Wireless Solutions

Hawthorne, CA (PRWEB) December 16, 2011

Symmetry Electronics, a growing leader in design oriented semiconductor distribution, announced today that it has signed an agreement to add GainSpan, a leading provider of ultra-low power embedded Wi-Fi solutions, to its line card.

Under the terms of the agreement, Symmetry Electronics is authorized to promote and sell the complete line of GainSpan products to its worldwide customer base as well as online through the award-winning ecommerce site, SemiconductorStore.com. The GainSpan portfolio consists of ultra low power embedded Wi-Fi chips, modules, and evaluation kits with feature rich networking stack.

The GS1011 is an industry leading Wi-Fi SoC (system-on-chip) to have a secondary “network” processor to offload Wi-Fi services, and if required the networking stack, from any 8/16/32 bit host application processor. Its high level of chip integration and advanced power management techniques significantly reduce power consumption without compromising Wi-Fi compatibility. Offering one of the lowest power idle states available as well as “fast wake-up,” the GS1011 SoC and GS1011M modules are a perfect match for low power, multi-year battery life applications.

Highly scalable, reliable, manageable and secure, GainSpan GS1011M and GS1500M modules are designed to provide wireless links for embedded applications and wireless sensor networks, to connect to widely available IEEE 802.11b/g/n (Wi-Fi) access points, smartphones and PDAs. These features make the GainSpan line ideal for use in a broad array of applications such as healthcare, smart energy, consumer and commercial/building automation.

In recent years, Symmetry Electronics has seen an exponential increase in demand for Wi-Fi chips that are both easy-to-implement and have a low impact on design budget. The GainSpan line enhances our existing wireless component inventory with a product family that eliminates the complexity and cost typically associated with Wi-Fi implementation, said Gil Zaharoni, Symmetry Electronics CEO. Our wireless engineers have spent a great deal of time seeking out a supplier with the ability to accommodate the needs of our expanding (wireless) customer base. GainSpans position on developing leading edge technology will allow us to meet those needs and brings to this partnership, a level of satisfaction that simply could not be found elsewhere.

We are excited to work closely with Symmetry as GainSpan continues to expand its global presence, said David Casey, vice president of worldwide sales for GainSpan. Symmetrys clear focus on wireless, and especially low-power Wi-Fi for the embedded space, makes them a strong partner for the broadening of our sales channel. Symmetry also has the application expertise to support wireless designs and I am confident they will help GainSpan further expand its market presence in the North and South American markets.
