TRIMSPA® Helps Support the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Newark in the “Men Serving the Community” Food Festival

(PRWEB) October 1, 2004

Cedar Knolls, NJ (PRWEB) October 1, 2004— Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Newark, Inc., a branch of the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the country, is hosting the “Men Serving the Community” food festival on Saturday, October 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 35 James Street in Newark, NJ. The food festival – an annual fundraiser for the local chapter – celebrates the diversity of American culture and its variety of ethnic foods. All proceeds from food sales go directly to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Newark, Inc.

To date, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Newark has touched the hearts and minds of over 1,500 Essex and Union County youth, providing one-on-one mentoring to high risk youth in the community. The organization proudly reports that the positive relationships between Big Brothers and Big Sisters and their “Littles” reap positive, direct, measurable, and lasting results on children’s lives.

Samantha Christmas, a “Big Sister” and electronic data interchange manager at TRIMSPA Corporation, explains, “TRIMSPA was recently involved with Junior Achievement and I was very happy to participate in the function. It drove me to start thinking about doing other volunteer work. I feel it (Big Brothers and Big Sisters) offers kids an outlet from their own everyday surroundings that may not be so positive. The right mentor can help kids see things differently and stay motivated because they have someone to make them feel special. A ‘Big’ offers them a support mechanism that they may not otherwise have, but need, to achieve their goals and dreams.”

Christmas, who became a “Big Sister” to a 12 year old girl in August of this year, is an enthusiastic advocate of the organization – encouraging others to volunteer their time and hearts to special boys and girls in their community.

“This program has given me the opportunity to grow as a person and to help a special girl stay on the right path. It’s allowed me to share the love that I have in my heart with someone who wants to keep hope alive.”

Support your community Big Brothers and Big Sisters this Saturday by attending a unique adventure into a world of ethnic foods. For information on how you can become a Big Brother or Big Sister, or how to find out more information about the organization, please log onto http://www.bbbsa.org.
