Behlman Power Products Deliver Fail-Safe Power For The Navys MK-119 Fire Control System

Summary of Behlman Power Products Deliver Fail-Safe Power For The Navys MK-119 Fire Control System

Behlman Electronics received a follow-on contract to supply 94012-MK-119 Power Supply Systems for the U.S. Navy AEGIS Destroyer MK-119 Fire Control Systems. After quickly delivering a first article replacement, Behlman provided a modular, ruggedized, rack-mountable 94012 system with three load-sharing LRUs and an N+1 redundant design, plus the UPS-3000 uninterruptible power source. Both products meet MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461 and are used to ensure reliable 120 VAC, 60 Hz power aboard Navy ships.

Parts used in the 94012-MK-119 Power Supply System:

  • Behlman 94012-MK-119 Power Supply System (rack mount chassis, 19, 3U)
  • Behlman 94016-MK-119 Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) — three modular load-sharing units
  • Behlman UPS-3000 uninterruptible power source (3000 VA, five minutes hold-up time)
  • Internal cooling fans (integrated in LRUs)
  • Front panel status indicators (on LRUs)
  • Rack slides (optional)

Behlman Electronics Inc., known for its leadership in providing power products for industrial, commercial and military applications, has been awarded a follow-on contract to provide Behlman 94012-MK-119 Power Supply Systems for use on the U.S. Navy AEGIS Destroyer MK-119 Fire Control Systems.

Behlman was originally awarded a contract to design a form-fit-function replacement MK-119 power supply system for the Navys systems integrator when the original manufacturer went out of business. Behlman responded by building, testing and delivering a first article 94012-MK-119 system in just 90 days. As a result of the improved performance and cost-savings made possible by the modified COTS design of Behlmans power supply system, Behlman was subsequently asked to manufacture a replacement 3000 VA uninterruptible power source (the Behlman UPS-3000) for the MK-119 Fire Control System.

Our can do attitude and ability to get things done on the first contract resulted in multiple additional production contracts with the systems integrator and the Navy, explained Behlman Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ron Storm. Weve proven our ability to deliver, and the MK-119 Power Supply System has proven itself able to withstand the rigors on board U.S. Navy warships.

The Behlman 94012-MK-119 Power Supply System features a modular design with three load-sharing, line replaceable units (Behlman 94016-MK-119 LRUs). In the event of the loss of one LRU, the remaining two LRUs can support the full load while the third unit is hot-swapped (replaced without shutting down power on the system). The ruggedized, modified COTS LRUs are N+1 redundant and feature current sharing, front panel status indicators and internal fans for cooling.

Behlmans 94012-MK119 Power Supply System is rack mountable (19 rack mount chassis, 3U) with an option for slides, and is designed to meet MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461 specifications.

The Behlman UPS-3000 is a ruggedized, true on-line UPS with five minutes of hold-up time at 3000 VA. It provides protection against short-circuits and other power problems including noise, sags, surges, transients, frequency changes, high/low voltages, lightning, blackouts and harmonics. This UPS is designed to meet MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461 specifications, and is used by the Navy to power the Behlman 94012-MK-119 Power Supply System, in addition to other 120 VAC, 60 Hz equipment in the MK-119 Fire Control System.

Behlman Electronics Inc., a subsidiary of Orbit International Corp., manufactures and sells high quality standard, modified standard, custom and COTS power solutions, including AC power supplies, frequency converters, inverters, DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC, and uninterruptible power supplies.

Orbit International Corp., (NASDAQ:ORBT), based in Hauppauge, New York, is involved in the manufacture of customized electronic components and subsystems for military and nonmilitary government applications.
