Developing Your Next Medical, Laboratory, or Business Device Using an Android Platform

James Bleck, president of Bleck Design Group and Matthew Hickcox, president of Odic Incorporated will present: “Android Tablets and Phones: the Core of Your Next Medical, Laboratory, or Business Device” during the Design & Manufacturing New England expo at the Boston Convention Center on Thursday, April 26, 2012. They will speak at the Innovation Brief Theater – booth 1051 from 11:30-11:55 to an audience of laboratory equipment, business product, and medical device product development professionals and senior management.

 

James and Matthew will discuss the new product development trend toward the use of Android tablet and phone technology and the migration away from custom embedded systems. They will review the advantages and unresolved issues surrounding this trend: including software availability, touch panel interfaces, estimated costs, and consumer expectations.

 

James Bleck is the founder and president of Bleck Design Group, an award-winning Boston-area industrial design, engineering and product development firm. He has written and contributed to design articles for Design News, Medical Design Technology, Medical Product Manufacturing News, and Moldmaking Technology. He is a frequent speaker on product design to business and academic audiences. He has served as a juror for Industrial Designers Society of America/Business Week International Design Excellence Award and Consumer Electronic Show Innovation Award competitions. He received his BFA in Industrial Design in 1976 from the University of Illinois and completed graduate studies in management at Northeastern University.

 

Matthew Hickcox is the founder and president of Odic Incorporated, an electronics design firm that develops embedded hardware and firmware for the consumer product, industrial control, medical device, and telecom industries. Matthew is currently working with clients to integrate tablets into shopping carts, hospitals, medical offices and at home for health monitoring. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1984. Prior to founding Odic in 1991, he worked at GTE Government Systems.
