ipConfigure to Demonstrate Embedded Axis Camera LPR Solution at ISC-West

Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) March 26, 2012

ipConfigure announces the first commercially available embedded License Plate Recognition (LPR) application for IP cameras. This new technology will be demonstrated in both the Axis and ipConfigure booths at ISC-West 2012 in Las Vegas, NV. In partnership with Axis Communications, ipConfigure has successfully developed this LPR application using the Axis Camera Application Platform (ACAP). The embedded software is capable of autonomously and independently capturing, reading and recording license plates, all entirely within an Axis camera. Dr. R. Cortland Tompkins, Director of Computer Vision at ipConfigure, elaborates,

“With the processing power available in the latest generation of Axis cameras, we now have the computing facilities to offer a truly no-compromise embedded LPR system at the edge, using the same advanced machine vision processes as our server-based solution. Fast general purpose computing on the camera has opened up many exciting new possibilities for embedded analysis and recognition systems; LPR is just the tip of the iceberg.”

As a stand-alone system, ipConfigure embedded LPR provides advanced functionality including watch lists, e-mail alerts and report generation. Additionally, it may also be used to extend the capabilities of existing systems – communicating license plate images and results with external devices or servers using a simple XML interface.

ipConfigures popular LPR product was originally developed for the US Government as a server-based application, leveraging color megapixel images from IP cameras. This innovative approach removes the need for reflective license plates or costly IR illumination while increasing the field of view to include details such as the color, make, model, and driver of vehicles.
