NASA Safety Center Using Concept Searchings Smart Content Framework

McLean, VA, US and Stevenage, UK (PRWEB) February 01, 2012

Concept Searching, a global leader in semantic metadata generation, auto-classification and taxonomy management software, and developer of the Smart Content Framework, along with Triune Group, developer of KnowledgeNow, has deployed Concept Searchings conceptSearch at the NASA Safety Center.

The NASA Safety Center (NSC) was established in October 2006 to support the safety and mission assurance requirements of NASA’s portfolio of programs and projects. The organization wanted to improve collaboration across the 23,000 strong workforce, improve findability, effectiveness and information sharing in a controlled and secure environment.

Recognized as a leader in the knowledge management field, Triune Group, a Concept Searching partner, needed an advanced, robust search capability to integrate into its offering. Triune Group embedded Concept Searchings intelligent search application, conceptSearch, into its KnowledgeNow (KN) collaboration platform. The KnowledgeNow application provides capabilities such as document management, discussion forums, wikis, blogs, program management tools, and professional networking through a community of practice model.

Concept Searchings conceptSearch delivered the unique industry ability to automatically generate semantic metadata through concept extraction, significantly improving search results. According to Douglas Book, President and CEO, Triune Group, Due to Concept Searchings straightforward design, integration into our environment was very easy and we were able to provide much more than a basic search results list; we were actually able to categorize the search results by content type – documents, forums, communities, people, action items and wikis.

The new system, called NASA Safety Center KnowledgeNow (NSCKN), currently supports over 23,000 registered users in more than 830 virtual workspaces and communities of practice. The goal was to replace the existing collaboration tool used by the NASA Safety Center. With the integration of the Concept Searching intelligent search capability, Triune Group was able to provide a scalable, robust collaboration tool that now provides powerful, advanced search capabilities. Brian Follen, NASA Safety Center (NSC) KnowledgeNow Program Manager, said about the solution, With the integration of the conceptSearch intelligent search capability, Triune Group was able to provide us with a robust and scalable collaboration tool that delivers not only powerful advanced searching capabilities, but also a controlled and secure environment.

Using the first two building blocks of the Smart Content Framework, Metadata and Insight, the NASA Safety Center has realized the benefits of implementing a framework that offers not only a robust search solution but also provides insight and delivery of relevant information to the right people, said Martin Garland, President, Concept Searching. We are delighted to have worked with Triune Group and the NASA Safety Center to solve their search challenges, he concluded.
