Top Long Island, N.Y., High School Students Set to Compete in 13th Annual Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials Invitational Science Fair

Freeport, NY (PRWEB) March 28, 2008

Three hundred top students from 12 Long Island, N.Y. high schools will test their scientific prowess and research skills at the 13th Annual Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials Invitational Science Fair on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Manhasset High School, 200 Memorial Place, Manhasset, NY 11030. The students, who compete for scholarships, cash and non-monetary prizes, will present their research experience to esteemed judges from universities, corporations and hospitals across Long Island.

Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials in Freeport, NY, has sponsored the event every year since its inception.

“We have supported this event every year since it began and we continue to be impressed by the hard work the students put into these projects, which demonstrate an amazing level of sophistication,” said David Schram, president of Packaging and Finishing Technologies for Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials.

High schools participating in the fair are Great Neck North, Great Neck South, Herricks, Jericho, Manhasset, Roslyn, Schreiber (Port Washington), South Side, Syosset and The Wheatley School. Also presenting will be Commack and North Shore Hebrew Academy. The event organizing committee, called The Research Association (http://www.researchassociation.org), is composed of teachers from each of these schools and is responsible for all planning and implementation for the event.

“Learning in science is the result of doing science, rather than being lectured to,” said The Research Association President Peter Guastella, who teaches at Manhasset High School. “This fair has become a model for how local schools and business can collaborate to enhance the education of our students.”
