PC temperature control using Atmel Mega32

Posted on: 04 Oct 2014

Abstract Our project is a standalone temperature and fan monitoring and control unit for the PC. It uses the temperature readings to adjust fan speeds in order to regulate temperature and noise. The system is flexible in that it can be configured to be either completely autonomous, or set up to be configurable. It is […]

MOS 6502 Emulation on an Atmel Mega32

Posted on: 04 Oct 2014

ECE 476 – Spring 2003Christopher Foster and Jeff Puchalski When Chris and I first started tossing around project ideas, I sputtered out: ‘Hey! Wouldn’t it be cool if we could emulate a Nintendo using some Atmel chips?’ Chris replied ‘Ooh, that’d be awesome, then I could play Ice Hockey and Final Fantasy 1 again!’After looking […]

RCas9: A programmable RNA editing tool

Posted on: 03 Oct 2014

A powerful scientific tool for editing the DNA instructions in a genome can now also be applied to RNA, the molecule that translates DNA’s genetic instructions into the production of proteins. A team of researchers with Berkeley Lab and the University of California (UC) Berkeley has demonstrated a means by which the CRISPR/Cas9 protein complex can be programmed to recognize and cleave RNA at sequence-specific target sites.

A Portable Battery-Powered Roguelike Video Game Using Atmel MEGA32

Posted on: 03 Oct 2014

I. Introduction This project is a portable battery-powered video game based on the 1984 cult classic PC game “Rogue”. I designed a hardware-based roguelike video game because I am a long-time Rogue addict and thought it would be cool to make a portable plug-and-play imitation. The project involved some basic hardware setup, including a Sega […]

New map exposes previously unseen details of seafloor

Posted on: 02 Oct 2014

Accessing two previously untapped streams of satellite data, scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego and their colleagues have created a new map of the world’s seafloor, creating a much more vivid picture of the structures that make up the deepest, least-explored parts of the ocean. Thousands of previously uncharted mountains rising from the seafloor and new clues about the formation of the continents have emerged through the new map, which is twice as accurate as the previous version produced nearly 20 years ago.

Dual control RC car using Atmel Mega32

Posted on: 02 Oct 2014

Introduction We have always liked playing with remote controlled (RC) cars, so we decided it would be fun to modify certain aspects of it. This led us to the idea of changing the remote control so that the car responds to different types of input. For our project, we modified the controls for an RC […]
