Neural Net Helicopter Using Atmega32

Posted on: 06 Mar 2015

Introduction and High Level Design Our project was to design a two degree-of-freedom stationary helicopter, autonomously controlled by an evolving neural network. A normal helicopter has six degrees of freedom, which makes any form of control exceptionally hard, let alone autonomous control. What our design does is limit the movement of our system to just […]

Accelerometer Controlled R/C Vehicle Using Atmega32

Posted on: 06 Mar 2015

INTRODUCTION In our final design project for ECE 476: Microcontrollers, we decided to build a vehicle controlled, using accelerometers, by a remote control that wirelessly transmits, using RF technology, data to the vehicle to move in any direction. The accelerometers will be mounted on a steering wheel shaped remote control, such that if the user […]

Researchers put mouse gene in cattle to make them less susceptible to TB

Posted on: 05 Mar 2015

(Phys.org) —A team of researchers working at Northwest A&F University in China has found that introducing a particular mouse gene into cattle can give them better protection against tuberculosis. In their paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the team describes how they moved the gene and then their tests to see how well the cattle with the new gene were able to ward off a TB infection.

Posted on: 05 Mar 2015

(Phys.org)—A team of researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology has found that unlike western cuisine, ingredients in Indian food are less likely to have flavors in common. In their paper uploaded to the preprint server arXiv, the team describes how they applied network science to cuisine and found curious differences between food recipes from the two cultures.

ROBOT ARM Using Atmega32

Posted on: 05 Mar 2015

Introduction Our project is a twenty four and half inch aluminum frame robotic arm with four degrees of freedom. In our project we made the arm the second player in the classic game of Tic-Tac-Toe to demonstrate its programmable repeatable motion.  The arm consists of five servo motors, four to control the motion and one […]

Research shows belief in supernatural punishment, rather than ‘big gods’ of religion gave rise to…

Posted on: 04 Mar 2015

(Phys.org)—A team of researchers with ties to several different institutions in Australia has published a paper in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B refuting claims made by other researchers that the advent of “big gods” characteristic of such religions as Islam and Christianity, were one of the driving forces that led to large civilized societies.

Help Quit Smoking Watch Using Atmega32

Posted on: 04 Mar 2015

Introduction: The Help Quit Watch is a watch that smokers can wear to help them quit smoking. The Help Quit Watch contains a smoke detector that detects whenever the smoker smokes and plays an encouraging clip to help the smoker stop. It then records statistics about the smokers habit. In addition, since it replaces the […]

Electronic Impact Vest Using Atmega32

Posted on: 03 Mar 2015

Our one sentence “sound byte”… *POP* Finally, a fair and balanced way to score Tae Kwon Do matches without the moaning and groaning of everyone. The Electronic Hogu system uses piezoelectric force sensors to determine how much force is delivered by the impact of a strike. Using waveform analysis and analog-digital conversion, it is possible […]

TriWheeler robot Using Atmega32

Posted on: 02 Mar 2015

Introduction The TriWheeler is a radio-controlled robot with three wheels. The lack of the fourth wheel is far from the only thing that renders it distinctively different from typical radio-controlled units. In addition to the capability of being freely controlled with a remote control, The TriWheeler has a smart autonomous mode that allows the unit […]

Music Wand: Real-Time Optical Scanning of Sheet Music Using Atmega32

Posted on: 01 Mar 2015

Introduction The Music Wand is a device that optically reads printed sheet music in real-time and synthesizes the notes which are read from the page. The device uses a linear image sensor mounted on the end of a handheld wand to scan printed sheet music and identify the note pitches. For each note detected, a […]
